Feature and Follow Friday (9)

Hello everyone! It's another Feature & Follow Friday! It's been a blast meeting everyone and following so many blogs. We hope this week will be just as successful as last week!

Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Alison Can Read and Parajunkee.

This week's question is...

Q: Do you mind books with similar ideas to other books? Similar concepts, backgrounds, retellings or pulled-to-publish fanfic?

For the most part, no I am not bothered. For every insanely popular book, there is going to be a trend that follows. Everyone wants to read the next Harry Potter, the next Hunger Games, the next Twilight...I know when I read a great book, I want to look for other awesome books in that genre. That's how I found books like Divergent and The Mortal Instruments. I also thought I was sick of the vampire genre until I read superb book, The Immortal Rules. The most important thing is being able to sort the quality books from the rest of the pile.

I also love re-tellings and re-imaginings...especially with fairy tales. I mean two of my favorite television shows right now are Once Upon a Time and Grimm. They take these stories we know and just put their own twist on them. That's what I enjoy. It's fun and refreshing.

Finally, I LOOOVE fanfiction. I have been reading it since Buffy was on the air. I am totally open to reading fanfiction turned books...or reading books by fanfiction authors. I think they're some of the most talented writers out there.

Let me know what you think in the comments! Or if you want, you can just say hi!

  1. I usually don't mind as long as there is some originality - something different, even if the books are a similar concept.

  2. I loooove retellings too! Really just with fairy tales and mythology! That's my idea of retellings anyway! Can never get enough of those!

    Here's my Follow Friday

  3. Great answers! Obviously, with the popularity of Grimm and Once Upon a Time, the general public can't get enough of the retelling of fairy tales, either. New like on FB. Thanks for stopping by mine!

  4. I love retellings too, as long as the include new turns or details that made them unique.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm following you through GFC now :)

  5. Retellings are cool... I really love it when they twist it into something we never would have thought of before.. Like the book Tiger Lily.. It was a dark and completely different version of Peter Pan.. I wasn't a huge fan of the book for other reasons, but the concept of the retelling was pre-tty clever...

    Following you back!!

  6. Good point - a lot of authors want to be the next somebody, and probably even more readers want to find the next somebody.
