Feature & Follow Friday (2)

Hello everyone! This is our second week of doing Feature & Follow Friday! It's been a blast meeting everyone and following so many blogs. We hope this week will be just as successful as last week!

Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Alison Can Read and Parajunkee.

This week's question is...

Q: What hyped up book was worth all of the fuss?
The hyped up book series that is worth all the hype is A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. Even before Game of Thrones aired on HBO, my BFF tried to get me to read the books. She even bought me the first book. I did crack it open, but to be honest I was scared. I love high fantasy, but it is a big commitment. This is a whole new world. New names to learn, new family trees to keep straight, and even new geography to learn. I love high fantasy; I read The Lord of The Rings and I loved it, but those books were shorties compared to the whopping 1100+ pages of a book like A Storm of Swords (which ironically later became my favorite of the series so far). Before this series, I never read a book that was so long other than a textbook. Feeling overwhelmed, I put the book down, but after watching Season 1 of Game of Thrones, I went back and read all the books! It took me about 4 months to tackle the series, but it was SO worth it. George created this masterpiece and as long as you can keep everyone's names and houses straight, you'll do fine! Watching the series really helped with sorting that all out, but the books just give so much depth and beauty to the story. Every chapter is from a different characters POV, so you really get inside their heads. My favorites are Sansa, Tyrion, Ned, Brienne, and Jamie. Just truly, truly remarkable books. You will love them, just as I'm so sure I'll be waiting for Book 6, The Winds of Winter, until the end of time. So, any fans out there?

Let me know what you think in the comments! Or if you want, you can just say hi!

Also, we just got our facebook up and running, so feel free to like us there as well!

I got the first two of these books as a christmas present last year, but haven't started them yet. Tbh they're a bit intimidating. I didn't want to read them incase I was severely disappointed.
I'll definitely have to get started on them sometimes soon :)

  13. Old follower hopping through. So far I've only read the first book. All the unexpected deaths blindsided me. I hate when my fav characters die, I'm more of an Robert Jordan fan and he never killed anyone. But I loved the TV show and I plan to get back into the series.

  17. I've never read any of the Game of Thrones books, but they are super popular at the library where I work. Plus, with the TV Show, we can barely keep them on the shelves.

  21. Oh my book, I can't believe I forgot to mention these books! I'm so mad at myself, because I had the first book for YEARS. My co-worker recommended it to me, and I got it at Borders for $3.99... and then it sat on my tbr shelf for maybe 5 years? Ugh, the shame! I still have to read the latest one, although I did buy it for my brother, so I intend to borrow it back from him. ;)

Thanks for stopping by my blog and giving me a follow, I'm now following you!

  24. I had a lot of trouble getting through the first book, thought it was a bit too long and dragged just a bit. I LOVE what HBO has done with the books though, made them very user friendly. Thanks for becoming a follower of my site, I'm now following you back via GFC.

  28. WOOOOO! I was a reader long before the TV series... but be glad you waited... maybe Martin will pick up his pace... we waited YEARS for the last books.

Don't forget that there's character/family tree guides in the back of the books too, to help folk keep track XD

I looooooooove this series, and I'm thrilled it's getting hype.

    1. Reply to your reply... the last book SHOULD have been out a long time ago... when the 4th book came out, it was said that the 5th was already written and ready to publish, that they had been one book, but were split because of length... and then... nothing... for years... nothing. It was awful. I hope the TV series lights a fire under his butt, but honestly, I'll be amazed if he finishes this series before he dies. Hopefully he won't pull a Robert Jordan on people and make it about 8 books longer than it was supposed to be (or something like that... I stopped reading The Wheel of Time series halfway through the third book when I realized it was the same thing over and over and over... it's my fault though... the title of the series has "wheel" in it, I should have known!)

  32. I haven't really thought of reading this series. You asked me on my blog if I had watched the Secret Circle TV show, and I just wanted to let you know that, yes, I did. As a huge fan of The Vampire Diaries show, I found the Secret Circle a huge disappointment. The actress who played Cassie really annoyed me- and the actor who played Adam was not how I pictured his character while reading. :'(

  34. The world he created is amazing - and thank goodness he includes family charts and a map. Sansa has really grown on me, I used to loathe her. I do worry he won't actually be able to finish the series, I also think the tv is one of the best books to television adaptations I have ever seen.

  35. For me it was Harry Potter and the Hunger Games. I didn't start either series until the movies were coming out.

  39. I'd never read high fantasy before ASOIAF, and at first I was a little daunted by the complexity of A Game of Thrones. I quickly became engrossed in this world and its characters, though, and absolutely love the series. Jaime and Brienne are two of my favorite characters, too.

About Us

Once upon a time, there were two sisters -Susan and Shauna - who were moved and mesmerized by stories through any medium, since they were teeny tiny. This passion stayed with them throughout adulthood, and after becoming even more enthralled with Young Adult fiction in recent times (and some Adult & MG!) they decided they just had to open up their own book blog and share their enthusiasm with the world, or well, to anyone who would listen.
