Welcome to the first edition of Scooping The Screen, our own new original feature in which books on television and in film will be spotlighted. This feature will be posted at varying frequencies, so please keep checking our site for further updates.

Starting off with the small screen, the fall television season is upon us! YAY! This season we have several series on television that are based on books, comic books, and that feature characters who are popular writers. Check out the trailers for your favorites and soon-to-be favorites!

* Grimm has already aired 4 episodes and will move to its regular Friday timeslot on 9.28.12.
** Gossip Girl will have a final season of 10 episodes. The Carrie Diaries, a new show based on the series by Candace Bushnell, will replace it in January. Watch the trailer here.
*** Pretty Little Liars will air a special Halloween episode entitled "This is a Dark Ride". Season 3B will premiere on 1.08.13.

ALSO:
While it's not on the CW's fall schedule, The Selection, the romantic dystopian series by Kiera Cass, is still in contention for a place on the mid-season or summer schedule. For more information on this potential series check out Kiera Cass's blog.

~BOOKS IN FILM~

Switching to the silver screen, we have plenty of YA adaptions debuting in the near future! Check out all the information on your favorite series that are coming soon to a theater near you!

The final Twilight Saga film, Breaking Dawn Part 2, will be in theaters on November 16th. Tickets will go on sale September 30th. Check out the final trailer here.

Beautiful Creatures, the first novel in the series written by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, recently completed production. It will be released on February 13, 2013.

The Host, another novel by Stephanie Meyer, will be in theaters on March 29, 2013. Check out the first teaser trailer here. Check into GetGlue now for an exclusive sticker!

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has recently started production in Atlanta, Georgia. It will be released on November 22, 2013. Check out my favorite fansites, Mockingjay.net and TheHob.org for more information on the books and films.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones has been in production for a couple of weeks in Toronto, Canada. It will be in theaters on August 23, 2013. For all the latest news on production check out Mundie Moms, TMI Source, The Instruments, Devices, and Artifices, and Cassanda Clare's tumblr.

Divergent, the first novel in the trilogy by Veronica Roth, has been given the release date of March 21, 2014. Neil Burger will direct the adaption written by Evan Daugherty. Production is expected to begin in early 2013.

The Maze Runner, the first novel in the trilogy by James Dashner, is expected to be released sometime in 2013. Wes Ball will direct the film for 20th Century Fox.

Shadow and Bone, the first novel in the Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo, will be produced by Harry Potter's David Heyman and Jeffery Clifford. There is no director or screenwriter available yet. Check out EW for more information.

Several other projects have had their screen rights picked up for potential adaptions. These include Under The Never Sky (Veronica Rossi), The Diviners (Libba Bray), The Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Laini Taylor), Legend (Marie Lu), and The Raven Boys (Maggie Stiefvater).   1. Great list. I had no idea that Revenge was based off anything.

    I should mentioned, which is something you might not know.. The Witches of East End by Melissa de la Cruz is being adapted for a TV show (has been greenlit for a pilot) for LIFETIME.

    1. Thanks Jen! Yeah, it's really loosely based, but still an inspiration. LOL. And yes, I did hear about that pilot. I thought about mentioning it but I wanted to keep this focused on just fall TV. I'll probably mention it in another edition, but thanks for letting me know. :)
